About Our Library:

Istanbul University Institute of Islamic Studies Library was established in 1953 under the leadership of Zeki Velidi Togan, Salih Tuğ and Fuat Sezgin. The library has been enriched over time with purchases, gifts and donations made with the Institute's budget of 1500 liras at that time. Important academicians such as Yusuf Ziya Kavakçı, Mehmet Akif Aydın, and Mustafa Bilge contributed to the more systematic growth of the library. It became the most important library in the field of Islamic Sciences of the period with the follow-up and purchase of the books published in the east and west. The library, which was left without a budget with the process of transforming the Institute into a center in 1982, has come to a situation where it only accepts books as gifts. The library, which was adversely affected by the retirement of the officers responsible for the library and some processes in the early 2000s, was put into storage until 2021. The library was reopened in 2021 by moving to the courtyard of Kuyucu Murat Paşa Madrasa. There are a total of 15,938 registered works, including 9330 books and 6599 periodicals in the library.

Istanbul University Institute of Islamic Studies Library has been open as a specialized library to serve our postgraduate students in the field of social sciences as of September 29, 2022.

Our library will be open between 12 AM-5 PM on weekdays. Our library will accept students by appointment system. Those who want to make an appointment should send an e-mail to islamtetkileri@istanbul.edu.tr at least one day in advance.
